Transcript – May 7, 2015: Eliminating Learning

#lrnchat is an online chat over the social messaging service Twitter. It is held on Thursdays at 8:30-9:30pm ET/5:30-6:30pm PT.

Participants are people interested in the topic of learning from one another and who want to discuss how to help other people learn in formal, informal, social and mobile ways. We aim to steer clear of topics that are more “training department” oriented and focus on how people learn, what they learn, and what we’re learning.  If you an idea for a topic that you would like to suggest for #lrnchat, please feel free to reach out to any of the Chat Hosts.

This Week’s Chat Questions

  • @shackletonjones offers examples of eliminating learning: London Tube map, pilot flight plans. What are others?
  • How do you design a system that people don’t have to learn how to use? Tradeoffs?
  • What does “expertise” look like in a system where learning has been eliminated from the design?
  • What things other than learning can improve performance?
  • Should we build sat-nav/GPS like systems for everything? Eliminate learning from everything? Why/Why not?
  • In a world of learning machines, what will learning look like in the future?
  • What is something that you learned, surprised you, or you’ll do different after from tonight’s chat?
