Transcript – April 30: “Persistence” (Lightning Round)

#lrnchat is an online chat over the social messaging service Twitter. It is held on Thursdays at 8:30-9:30pm ET/5:30-6:30pm PT.

Participants are people interested in the topic of learning from one another and who want to discuss how to help other people learn in formal, informal, social and mobile ways. We aim to steer clear of topics that are more “training department” oriented and focus on how people learn, what they learn, and what we’re learning.  If you an idea for a topic that you would like to suggest for #lrnchat, please feel free to reach out to any of the Chat Hosts.

Lightning Round

This week we tried something new and pushed out 10 questions over the course of the hour rather than the typical 5-6. The chat was fast, dynamic, and energetic.

This Week’s Chat Questions

  • What are some things that you persisted at until you were skilled? What drove your persistence?
  • What factors drive someone to give up trying or learning something knew?
  • How can we use this knowledge to help motivate learning?
  • How do you know when to stop persisting? (When is it wiser to stop than to persevere?)
  • Has persistence ever worked against you? Why/how?
  • Do you think persistence internally or externally motivated? Why?
  • What is the role of persistence in community? Can persistence be shared is it an individual effort?
  • What is the relationship between persistence and learning?. Are they co-dependent?
  • How does persistence impact performance?
  • What is something that you learned, surprised you, or you’ll do different after from tonight’s chat?
